Project Modernization of Teaching at Duhovka High School

Between July 1 and December 31, 2019, Duhovka High School implemented a European project focused on the modernization of language and science teaching, financially supported in Call 37 of the Operational Programme Prague Growth Pole (OP PPR). We were able to co-finance the reconstruction of the former IT classroom into a new modern multimedia laboratory for teaching foreign languages and other subjects and to equip the science laboratories with new measuring and experimental equipment.

Multimedia classroom

The newly built multimedia classroom primarily for teaching foreign languages and other subjects is equipped with technological solutions with maximum emphasis on the quality of modern teaching, including teacher-student cooperation. Within the framework of the tender for the public contract, the Prague company AV Media a.s. was selected as the supplier of technology and software on the basis of strict criteria.

The classroom equipment is complemented by a large interactive display with electronic markers and a visualizer. The desktop visualiser is used to capture flat (translucent and opaque) or three-dimensional objects and display them on the interactive display. The captured image from the visualizer can be further processed in the educational sw, supplemented with labels in digital ink, saved and shared. The visualiser also allows you to control the display of objects, rotate and zoom them using a special 3D cube.

A total of 24 comfortable student workstations are equipped with headsets and fixed computers with powerful monitors. The teacher workstation technology and software allows for digital video presentation, streaming video, monitoring of individual work on student computers, control of student PCs from the teacher's workstation, chat conversations between individual students and the teacher including recording, pronunciaion practice settings, listening, collaboration of several students at once and much more. The software also includes a cloud environment for interactive student collaboration using student devices - computers, tablets and smartphones - connected to the internet.

The multimedia classroom system is also extended with the possibility of remote access to study materials for self-study. With an Internet connection, students can work on prepared assignments from home or from another computer in the school, alone or in a group with classmates. Interactive work in the cloud environment allows collaboration not only within the same class, but also collaboration between students after school or collaboration between remote participants on international projects. Teachers can also remotely prepare materials in which students remotely practice all aspects and skills related to language learning and other subjects. The multimedia classroom software allows language teachers to use thousands of interactive exercises already prepared by other Czech school teachers and made available free of charge for sharing on the web portal.

The new furniture also contributes to the comfort of work: the student workstations are grouped in "nests"- custom-made desks for four students each, equipped with technology, ergonomically designed chairs and an aesthetic environment.

Thanks to financial support from European funds and the Prague City Council, we have managed to equip the science laboratories with new equipment for measurements and experiments.
